Rick McPhee Joins Opower as Vice President of Engineering
Data Security Background Matches Opower’s Commitment to Energy Data Privacy

Opower, the leading energy management software company, today announced that Rick McPhee has been appointed as the company’s new Vice President of Engineering. Mr. McPhee has more than 10 years of experience leading engineering teams to build complex software systems for the enterprise and is a widely respected technology leader in the security industry. Mr. McPhee will be based out of Opower’s San Francisco office.
Mr. McPhee previously served as vice president of engineering at Fortify, an HP company that provides Software Security Assurance products and services. There he was responsible for research and development for the flagship Fortify 360 product suite and the Fortify On Demand SaaS product. Mr. McPhee continued Fortify’s research and development team through the company’s acquisition by HP. Prior to Fortify, he was Vice President of Engineering at Vormetric, which develops encryption and key management products to protect sensitive data wherever it is stored. Prior to Vormetric, he was vice president of engineering at Sychron. Mr. McPhee holds a bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Glasgow and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Oxford.

Mr. McPhee’s hiring follows Opower’s recent publishing of its Data Privacy Principles.
